IRONMAN TAUPO (N.Z.): Victoires de Marko Albert et Meredith Kessler

Marko Albert, le grand estonien, remporte son 1er Ironman avec la manière devant un très bon plateau d’athlètes. Donné outsider, il a su faire la course en tête et tenir jusqu’à la fin. Sortie de l’eau en tête, toujours bien placé en vélo dans le groupe de tête, il conclu avec un marathon en 2h50 synonyme de victoire !

Le vétéran Cameron Brown, 10 victoires à Taupo, montre qu’il a encore des ressources et surtout termine devant les jeunes, l’expérience du site et des années, il sort en retraite en natation, refait son retard en vélo en compagnie de Berkel et Crawford, puis termine avec un marathon en 2h47 soit le meilleur du jour ! Bozzone complet le podium, soit 2 néo-zélandais sur le podium ! Docherty DNF sur le marathon. Tout comme Romain Guillaume, bien placé après le vélo, mais dans un jour sans à pied.

A noter que Scott Molina (NZL), premier vainqueur il y a 30 ans, et membre du Big 4 avec Allen, Scott et Tinley, termine en 10h10 et 3ème G.A. (50-54).

Damien Decas, blessé (périostite), qui ne devait pas terminé la course, va toutefois jusqu’au bout de son 1er IM en 10h03, se classe 18ème pro et 84ème au général. Rendez-vous en grande forme à Aix et Nice !

Chez les femmes, la tenante du titre Meredith Kessler (7ème à Kona 2013), n’a jamais été contrarié par la locale Gina Crawford, l’américaine qui a fait la course en tête de bout en bout, s’impose sur sa dauphine avec plus de 7′ d’avance.

Cameron Brown: « Great day finishing 2nd at The 30th anniversary of ironman New Zealand. Not bad for an old donkey! Tried running down Marco Albert but he was too strong, Terenzo Bozzone had a great race to finish 3rd, Well done mate. »

Romain Guillaume – Triathlete : « DNF sur mon premier Ironman 2014. Après une bonne natation en 46minutes, j’ai suivi à la lettre la stratégie de course à savoir ne pas faire d’effort inutile en vélo sur la première boucle. Sur la seconde boucle j’ai trouvé une opportunité de partir du groupe de chasse au 130eme mais rien y a fait, nous sommes tous rentrés ensemble au parc. Début de la course à pied comme convenu, 3’58 au km puis entre le 10eme et le 12eme je suis passé à 4’40, puis 4’50. Plus de jus du tout… J’ai eu beau essayer de m’alimenter, rien y à fait.Je suis très déçu car je m’étais investi pour y arriver. Il va falloir analyser tout cela à tête reposée pour rebondir sur l’Ironman de Lanzarote le 17 mai prochain. Merci à tous ceux/celles qui m’ont suivi et me soutiennent, à bientôt pour plus de nouvelles… »
