L’américain Tim O’Odonnell, double champion du Monde ITU (L) et 3ème des derniers championnat du Monde Ironman à Kona remporte l’Ironman 70.3 de Puerto Rico.
Dans le groupe de tête après la natation, il contrôle à vélo et s’envole en course à pied avec un semi en 1h17. Le podium est complété par l’australien Leon Griffin et l’américain Cam Dye prend la 3ème place.
Comme à son habitude c’est l’américain Starykowicz qui a fait le meilleur vélo en 2h00 (10ème au final), juste devant un Romain Guillaume très en forme, mais qui faibli à pied, tout en conservant une très belle 4ème place.
Le champion du Monde Ironman 2013 le belge Frederik Van Lierde n’était pas dans un grand jour et termine 11ème loin de ses espérances.
Les français Trevor Delsaut et Toumy Degham terminent respectivement 12ème et 19ème (25ème scratch) d’une course très relevée.

« 4ème aujourd’hui sur l’ Ironman 70.3 Puerto Rico… Belle natation où je sors dans le groupe 5ème, super vélo avec le 2nd temps à 2’30 de Andrew Starykowicz. Je suis partis un poil vite à pied (j’étais 2nd au 8eme km) par contre après j’ai eu du mal… La place est « ok » mais je suis quand même un peu déçu. Je ferai mieux la prochaine fois!

Frederik Van Lierde:
« Today wasn’t my best day. The swim went smooth and I came, seconds of the leading duo, as 3rd out of the water. In T1 I lost more than a minute, too much and therefore I lost connection with the leading pack. The lead group consisted of 5 men on which I lost time gradually. In the first 20 km I felt that I didn’t had my best legs today. Coming into T2 the gap to the final winner was 3:20. The feeling didn’t get better during the run and eventually I finished at a disappointing 11th place. It is clear that I had hoped and expected a better performance today. Tine Deckers a éliminé la concurrence sur le vélo, l’ancienne championne belge vainqueur de l’IM France, revient en grande forme, la française Jeanne Collonge termine 7ème.
